Music company sues Kendrick Lamar over song

US rap star Kendrick Lamar has been slammed with a lawsuit by Mattie Music group for sampling lyrics of a track by Bill Withers with the company saying it owns the exclusive rights to the song.
Kendrick sampled lyrics of Bill Withers’ song “Don’t You Want To Stay,” which was released back in 1975 on his track, “I Do This” without taking permission according to a lawsuit filed by the music company.

According to legal docs filed by MMG … the company says Kendrick’s 2009 track “I Do This” is a complete replica of “Don’t You Want To Stay” — to the point it “consists of nothing more than new rap and hip hop lyrics set to the existing music of
“Don’t You Want To Stay.”
The music company is suing for damages and wants Kendrick to sop using the song by Withers.
