Real reason women in their 30’s lose their jobs so often

There are a ton of reasons why women in their 30’s may choose to leave their jobs—sucky management, long hours, boring work. But new research shows your boss often has no clue why you’re really making a move. According to a recent global study from talent management and leadership company ICEDR, bosses often think that 30-something women leave their companies because they’re searching for a better work-life balance or are planning to have kids. But the reality couldn’t be farther from the truth. The study found that the number one reason why most women leave their jobs is for the same reason men leave: They want to make more money. And, get this: Women are more likely to leave a gig due to pay than men are. Money’s not the only factor for both sexes. The women surveyed for the study also cited lack of learning and development, as well as shortage of meaningful work, as reasons why they leave a job. Men list the same reasons, but say lack of learning and development is more important than pay. Interestingly enough, the reasons are the same in our 20s, too, proving that having a family doesn’t influence our career choices as much as people may think it does. Talk to any woman about this and you’d probably get the same response. But the findings highlight an important point: Bosses need to get with the times and stop assuming they know what women want.
